O'Molloys From All Over Globe Descend On Offaly For Rally

MOLLOYS from across the globe descended on Tullamore last weekend for the fourth annual O'Molloy Clan Rally.People from as far afield as Hawaii and Hong Kong teamed up with Molloys from nearer home for the rally, the highlight of which was the banquet in Charleville Castle on Saturday night, attended by over 150 people
The Molloys ancestry is based in this ancient district of Firceall, stretching from Durrow to Eglish.
To the tones of renowned baritone John Molloy Molloys toasted the banquet occasion with world famous whiskey, Tullamore Dew founded by Michael Molloy in 1829.
Over the weekend all the Molloy sites were visited. including Durrow High Cross and the restored church at Durrow which was not open to the public during the last rally in 2011.

The worldwide O'Molloy Clan Rally & Reunion will be held August 15 - 17, 2014 in Tullamore, County Offaly. The programme will be as follows:
Friday August 15
7.30pm - Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre
Registration, historical lectures and tour of the Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre. The Heritage Center Restaurant is open all day if visitors arrive early in Tullamore.
Historian Caimin O'Brien will present 'Walking With Dinosaurs - A Journey Into The Medieval World of the O'Molloys'. The presentation will be accompanied by a slideshow which will take people back into the medieval world of the O'Molloys and the region they ruled over then, known as O'Molloy's Country.
The talk will look at the landscape of O'Molloy's Country and offer an insight into the social and political lives of the O'Molloys and how they ruled over their country and how they lost their lands and their country during the turbulent times of the 17th century.
Membership of O'Molloy Association 10 euro plus Historic lecture 5 euro.
Saturday, August 16
9.30am from Tullamore Court Hotel
Bus tour of Firceal, taking in Durrow High Cross and other Molloy historical sites followed by dinner and entertainment at Charleville Castle. Including light lunch 20 euro.
8.00pm - Dinner & Medieval Evening at Charleville Castle. Featuring renowned Baritone John Molloy. Ticket only event. Tickets 25 euro.
Sunday, August 17
