Brave Young Birr Boy Determined To Walk
Four-year-old Oran Molloy from Birr needs your help to raise money for a life changing operation to help him walk. Brave little Oran, who was born with a serious form of cerebral palsy, has been accepted to undergo the operation in St. Louis in the USA which costs €50,000. However, neither health insurance or the HSE will contribute towards the massive cost involved in flying Oran to the United States to have the groundbreaking new procedure.
As a result several fundraising events have been organised and many local groups and businesses in Birr and Tullamore have pledged their support to Oran's attempt to overcome the terrible illness which has affected him since birth.
Oran, who was born eight weeks prematurely on New Year's Eve 2006, couldn't breathe on his own and was not expected to live.
Several events have already been planned to help raise funds, including a sponsored walk and barbeque sponsored by Lynch's Bar in Tullamore and organised by the Offaly County Council Social Cub at Lough Boora on August 25th.
'The Big Match' between Offaly local authorities and the HSE to raise funds will take place on August 31st at 8p.m. at the Tullamore Harriers. There will also be a 'Shave, Wax & Dye' in Gleeson's Pub in Riverstown on September 3rd, where anyone who wants their hair dyed blue and gold for the All Ireland final will be looked after. There will also be a sponsored skydive in Birr Airfield on September 24th which will be followed a 'Post Trauma Night' in Whelahans Bar with music by Mark Boylan.
